Product design
Design that ships: interfaces your engineers can build and your users can learn.
UX discovery, interface design, design systems and prototypes for web, mobile and operational software, worked out alongside the people who build it.
What the design work covers
UX research and discovery
Interviews, workflow observation and analysis of existing product data.
Information architecture
Navigation, page types and content structure organised around user goals.
Interface design
Responsive layouts and interaction details for web and mobile.
Design systems
Tokens, components and usage rules shared between design and code.
Prototyping and testing
Clickable prototypes tested with representative users before development.
Dense and operational UI
Tables, filters, forms and dashboards for people who spend hours in the product.

How we approach design

Start from the task
We design around what people are trying to accomplish, then decide layout and style.

Real content and real data
Screens are tested with realistic text, volumes and edge cases, not idealised samples.

Engineering in the room
Developers review designs early, so what is drawn is what can be built and maintained.

Accessible by default
Contrast, focus order, labels and touch targets are part of the design, not an audit at the end.
Tools and standards we work with
- Design
- Figma
- Design tokens
- Component libraries
- Quality
- WCAG 2.2 AA targets
- Responsive layouts
- Light and dark themes
- Implementation
- React
- TypeScript
- Storybook-style documentation
How a design engagement runs
Understand users and constraints
We review goals, existing research, brand and technical limits.
Map flows and structure
Key journeys and information structure are agreed before visual work.
Design and prototype
Screens and a prototype are reviewed in short cycles with your team.
Test and refine
We observe users on the prototype and revise the weak points.
Hand off to build
Specifications, tokens and component documentation are delivered, with support during implementation.
Typical phases
Typical durations for this kind of work. Real timing depends on scope, integrations and how quickly decisions are made.
Step 1: Discovery
1 to 2 weeks
Research, goals and structure.
Step 2: Core flows and system
2 to 5 weeks
Key screens and the foundations of a component library.
Step 3: Prototype testing
1 to 2 weeks
Sessions with users and a prioritised fix list.
Step 4: Handoff and support
Alongside build
Answering questions and reviewing implemented screens.

Questions about product design
Still have questions? Tell us about your project and we will answer in one business day.
Book a callCan you design without building, or build without designing?
Both. We can deliver design to your in-house or other external developers, or build from designs you already have. Combining them usually produces the smoothest handoff, but it is not required.
Do you create brand identities?
Our focus is product and interface design. We work within an existing brand or extend it into a product design system. A full brand identity project is a different discipline and we would suggest a specialist.
How do you test designs?
With clickable prototypes and a handful of sessions with representative users, to find the problems that matter. This is not statistical proof, but it catches most serious usability issues cheaply.
What do we get at the end?
Source files, a component and token library, flow documentation and notes for developers. You own the deliverables under the agreed terms.
