For marketplace founders and operators
I want to connect buyers and providers and take a fee for every transaction.
Start with the exchange itself: list, find, book and pay. The rest of the platform follows what real participants do.
Questions to settle before building
Which side first?
Marketplaces rarely start balanced. Choosing the first segment and city or niche changes the whole product.
How does money move?
Holding funds, splitting payments and handling refunds have legal and provider-specific constraints.
What can go wrong between strangers?
Cancellations, no-shows and disputes need defined rules and tooling.
Who runs it day to day?
Moderation, verification and support need an operator console from the first launch.
The order we build in
Model the transaction
We map listing, request, confirmation, payment, fee and dispute states in one diagram.
Build the core exchange
Provider onboarding, listings, search, booking and payment come first.
Add the operator console
Moderation, support actions and basic reporting are ready before launch.
Launch to a seeded segment
A controlled group of providers and buyers uses the system while we watch the flow.
Extend based on behaviour
Reviews, messaging, advanced search and mobile apps are added as use justifies them.
Build custom or start on a platform
| Platform or plugin | Custom marketplace | |
|---|---|---|
| Speed to first test | Faster for standard models | Slower to start |
| Unusual transaction rules | Limited by the product | Built to fit |
| Control over data and fees | Within vendor terms | Full control |
| Long-term flexibility | Constrained | Designed to evolve |
Typical timeline for a first marketplace release
Typical durations for this kind of work. Real timing depends on scope, integrations and how quickly decisions are made.

Questions from marketplace founders
Can you help us get providers and buyers?
Building software does not create liquidity. We can add onboarding flows and analytics that show where participants drop out, but acquisition is a separate effort that you will need to plan.
What about payment regulations?
Marketplace payments carry rules that depend on country and model. We use a payment partner built for marketplaces, and you should confirm your obligations with that provider and your legal adviser.
Can we start manually and automate later?
Yes, and we often recommend it. A simple interface with manual operations behind it teaches you where automation will pay off.
